If you have a loss, notify us immediately and begin preparing
a list of damages or destroyed property. The following
important tips will control the extent of a loss and protect your property from
further damage:
NOTE: Do not attempt any of the following procedures unless
they can be done safely.
Fire Losses
For Light to moderate fire damage:

Pick up debris and set aside for the Claims Adjuster to
¨ inspect
¨
Do no attempt to clean any smoke or soot from your
¨ furniture, as
professional cleaning is recommended
¨
Turn off the circuit breakers which control the damaged
¨ area
¨
In the event of a major fire, the home should be boarded
¨ up as well as possible
Windstorm or Rain Losses
¨
If your roof is seriously damaged, leaking badly or a storm ¨
is imminent, call a roofer or handyman to apply a plastic
¨ cover
Pipe Breaks with Flooding Losses
¨
Turn off the water supply
¨
Remove wet carpeting, if possible
Theft Losses
¨
Notify police or proper authority and obtain a case number
¨
Collect any receipts, warranty booklets or other
¨ documentation regarding stolen items
Motor Vehicle Damage
¨
If a vehicle has made an entry through a wall of your
¨ home, or if any
part of the dwelling is prone to collapse,
¨ you should not occupy the house
